TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
This is to certify that according to the information available to me and to the best of my knowledge and belief, Elsie Jordan is a descendant of the following:
James Stewart and wife Margaret McGee
James was born April 17, 1765, in Rowan County, North Carolina. He was said to be the son of Capt. George Matthew Stewart of Mecklenberg County, North Carolina, and later a Colonel in the revolutionary war.
James Stewart was drafted into the militia in April, 1781, when he was 16 years old.
Later Colonel George M. Stewart and his brothers, Henry and William, went to Georgia.
James Stewart married Margaret McGee on March 25, 1794. She was born in Virginia on July 27, 1772. James followed the family to Georgia, as James Stewart and his wife Margaret deeded Joseph Reynolds 299 acres of land in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, on November 10, 1794.
The children of James and Margaret included William, David, and James McEwen. These sons had large families. David Stewart’s daughter, Mary Elizabeth was born October 19, 1839. She married John Tom Baird on January 21, 1859. J.T. Baird was born September 19, 1838. He was commissioned as Lietenant of Company I, Regiment 41, Voluntary Infantry of Georgia, and was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
The children of Mary Elizabeth Stewart and her husband John Tom Baird, included Laura, Lena, Jim, Ida, and others.
