Dear Mrs. Dixey,
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns about chemical safety.
On April 14, 2011, Senator Frank Lautenberg introduced the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011 (S. 847). This legislation would amend the Toxic Substances Control Act by placing additional restrictions on chemical manufacturers, as well as granting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) even greater federal regulatory authority over the chemical industry. As Congress addresses this, and other issues, it is important that we find solutions that protect the public health, while at the same time promoting economic growth. The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, where it is awaiting further consideration. While I am not a member of this committee, I will remain mindful of your concerns should this, or similar, legislation come before the full Senate.
Again, thank you for writing to me with your concerns. I look forward to hearing any concerns or input you wish to share in the future.
